東屋　銅之薬缶 / Azmaya Copper Kettle

こちらのやかん。憧れのやかんです。「やかん」は室町時代に、漢方薬を煎じるために作られ、薬鑵（やくくわん）と呼ばれ、江戸時代になって、湯沸かしとして今の形になったそうです。素材に使われている銅は、金属資源として人類に古くから利用されてきたもので、加工がしやすく、熱伝導率が非常に良く熱しやすく冷めにくいことから、料理人の多くが昔から銅製の調理器具を愛用しています。

袋を開けたときは、ヘアライン仕上げで、美しく艶のある赤褐色をしていますが、時間の経過とともに酸化が進み、色は褐色から黒味を帯びてマットな渋さを増していきます。お茶の時間は、家族との語らいや自分の癒やしの時間を生み出してくれるもの。この美しい「やかん」を自分だけの味のあるものに育てながらゆっくりと時間をかけて、お茶の時間を楽しんでご使用いただけるたら嬉しいです。

This kettle is truly one to admire. The “yakan” (kettle) is said to have originated in the Muromachi period, when it was made for decocting herbal medicines and called yakuwan. During the Edo period, it evolved into the form we know today as a vessel for boiling water. The copper used for this kettle has been utilized by humankind since ancient times as a metal resource. Easy to work with and highly conductive, copper heats quickly and retains warmth well, which is why many cooks have long favored copper cookware.

When first unwrapped, the kettle features a hairline finish with a beautiful, glossy reddish-brown tone. Over time, oxidation progresses, and the color gradually deepens—from brown to a darker, matte, and richly subdued patina. Tea time creates moments for conversation with family as well as quiet personal relaxation. [Notes for Use]
- When placed over a flame, the handle and lid knob will become hot. Always use a pot holder.
- Small surface scratches may be present, but they do not affect functionality.
