[About This Furoshiki]

Kenrokuen Garden has long been cherished by both the people of Kanazawa and visitors to the city. This playful furoshiki incorporates the garden’s beautiful scenery and traditional Kaga Yuzen motifs.

Located in the heart of Kanazawa, Kenrokuen is one of Japan’s Three Great Gardens. Developed over many generations by the Maeda family, the lords of the Kaga Domain, it is a fine example of an Edo-period strolling garden. Its ponds, artificial hills, and teahouses are thoughtfully arranged to offer changing views as visitors wander through the grounds.

The name “Kenrokuen” refers to six qualities of an ideal landscape garden, drawn from classical Chinese literature: spaciousness, seclusion, human artistry, antiquity, water features, and panoramic views.

This furoshiki brings together some of Kenrokuen’s most iconic landmarks and seasonal plants, including the Kenrokuen Chrysanthemum Cherry, autumn maple leaves, Kotoji Stone Lantern, Tiger Stone, plum grove, Kaisekito Stone Pagoda, Karasakinomatsu Pine, fountain, Neagari Pine, and Japanese irises. Each element is vividly illustrated, creating a lively composition that captures the garden’s charm throughout the seasons.

Traditional motifs are combined in a bold, imaginative composition, revealing new details each time you look at it. The sophisticated yet understated colours bring a sense of elegance and vibrancy, making this furoshiki a beautiful complement to both traditional Japanese and contemporary Western styles.

Full of the charm and character of Kanazawa, it is a delightful piece to incorporate into everyday life and an excellent choice for anyone discovering the beauty and versatility of furoshiki for the first time.

[About the Artist]

Yoshimoto is a Kaga Yuzen artist officially certified as a Traditional Craftsperson by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The artist's work is characterised by playful creativity, bold compositions, and a distinctive sense of colour. While preserving the traditional techniques of Kaga Yuzen, Yoshimoto brings a fresh, contemporary perspective to this centuries-old craft, creating delightful pieces that bridge tradition and modernity.

[Ways to Enjoy Your Furoshiki]

A furoshiki is a wonderfully versatile piece of cloth, both beautiful and practical.

It makes a thoughtful souvenir, wedding favour, or gift. Beyond its traditional use for wrapping, it can also be draped over a small table as a tablecloth or displayed in an acrylic frame, like a piece of artwork on your living room wall.

[About Kenrokuen Garden]

Kenrokuen is one of Japan's Three Great Gardens, located next to Kanazawa Castle. This historic landscape garden was developed over many generations by the Maeda family, rulers of the Kaga Domain, during the Edo period.

Renowned for its breathtaking seasonal beauty, the garden offers a different experience throughout the year, from cherry blossoms in spring and Japanese irises in early summer to colourful autumn leaves and the iconic yukitsuri (snow-supporting ropes) in winter.

With famous landmarks such as the Kotoji Stone Lantern, Karasaki Pine, and Kasumigaike Pond, Kenrokuen remains one of Kanazawa's most treasured cultural landmarks.
