東屋　薬味寄せ / Azmaya Yakumi Yose (Bamboo Condiment Holder)［2106100000082］

卸金で生姜やニンニクをおろした後に、卸金の歯に残ってている細かな薬味を小さなほうきのようにさささっと掻いてくれる「薬味寄せ」。軽く乾かしやすい天然素材の竹もカラフルな組みひもでキッチンのアクセントに。ささやかですが、あればその存在がありがたいと感じる小道具です。

原料は淡竹〈はちく〉。茶筅を作る際に、製品にならなかった品を材料にして製作しているそうです。細く割いた竹がたとえ１本でも折れてしまっては、茶筅にはなりません。こちらの薬味寄せは、割れてしまって選別されたものを再利用して作られています。大切な自然素材を無駄にしないための知恵と技術です。

After grating ginger or garlic, this small tool gently sweeps up the fine condiments left clinging to the teeth of the grater, like a tiny broom. Made from natural bamboo, it is lightweight and easy to dry, while the colourful braided cord adds a subtle accent to the kitchen.
It may be a modest utensil, but once you have it, you can’t help appreciating its quiet usefulness.

The material used is hachiku bamboo. It is made from pieces that could not be used in the production of tea whisks. When making a tea whisk, even a single split bamboo strand breaking means it cannot become a finished product. This yakumi-yose is crafted by reusing those selected, split pieces. It reflects the wisdom and craftsmanship involved in ensuring that precious natural materials are not wasted.
