このペーパーウェイトは、能登のアテの木の木地に私が漆塗りと箔貼りを施しました。能登の風景とも言える下見板の多様な表情を想い描き、木目の凹凸が映える表情とつるりとした木肌とを組み合わせた作品です。

注釈：下見板とは、住居に施される板張りの外壁です。板を横向きの板を斜めに少しずつ重ねるように施工されます。海が近い町村に観られる伝統的な住居の外観です。素材は杉板等を使用することが多いですが、能登地域ではアテの木(能登ヒバ)が使われることもあります。その外観は、最初は針葉樹らしいしっとりとした質感ですが、潮の混じる風雨にさらされ時を経たものは銀灰色となり、木目の凹凸が映える味のある表情へと変化します。

Title of work: Paperweight "SHITAMI" A paperweight that evokes Noto through its wooden walls. The artist has applied lacquer and foil to this paperweight made from Noto's Ate wood. They envisioned the diverse expressions of clapboards, which are reminiscent of the scenery of Noto, and combined the smooth surface of the wood gives an expression that highlights the unevenness of the wood grain. Notes: Clapboards are the boarded exterior walls used on houses. The boards are laid so that horizontal boards are overlapped diagonally little by little. This is the traditional exterior of houses that can be seen in towns and villages close to the sea. Cedar boards are often used, but in the Noto region Ate wood (Noto hiba) is sometimes used. At first, the exterior has a moist texture typical of conifers, but after exposure to wind and rain mixed with salty water, it turns silvery gray and changes to a tasteful expression that highlights the unevenness of the wood grain.

アテとは能登半島に古くから生育する木。 石川県の県木であり、能登ヒバとも言われています。 シロアリなどの害虫に食われにくく、古くから建物や工芸品等に使われてきました。

おウチの形にカットしてくださったのは、工人さん( @woodwork_koujin )今回藤野さんは、このシンプルなお家の形の木材に能登への想いを寄せて、素晴らしい作品へと昇華してくださいました。

再建のシンボルとしての家。
人々の暮らす場としての家。
いくつも集まれば街が作られます。

まだまだ能登の復興は道のはじめ。藤野征一郎さんのこの作品を通して、今一度、震災のこと、これからまた起きるかもしれない災害のこと、家族や地域の人々と過ごす日々の大切さを問いなおしてみたいと思います。
